Henri Julien Félix Rousseau (21 May, 1844 to 2 September, 1910) was a French impressionist post painter in primitive or naive approach. He also named as Le Douanier (customs official), an amusing explanation of his profession as an excise collector. Ridiculed in his life, he became known as a person taught smarts whose efforts are of high creative quality.

Henri Rousseau was born in Laval, Mayenne, and Loire Valley in the family of a tinsmith. He attends Laval High School as an occupant, when his father becomes a nonpayer and his parents have to leave the city of the convulsion of their home.

He was average in few subjects in high-school but wins award for music and drawing.He work for the lawyer and learned law, but “efforts of a little perjury and required protection in the armed forces,” helping for four years from 1863. Rousseau states that he had "no teacher further than nature", but admitted that he had received "some guidance" from two recognized scholastic painters, Jean-Léon Gérôme and Félix Auguste-Clément. Effectively he was a person taught and it is measured to be a primitive or naive painter.

His top recognized paintings portrait scenes from the jungle, although he not at all left France or perceived in a jungle. Stories stretched by followers that his armed forces service integrated to Mexico the French expeditionary force are unsupported. His motivation comes from exemplified books and botanical gardens of Paris, along with pictures of stuffed wild animals. He also meets soldiers, in his period of service, which had survived the French expedition to Mexico and attention to their stories from the subtropical country he had meets. To the enemy Arsène Alexandre, he explains his regular calls to the Jardin des Plantes: "As I go in the glass house and I observe the weird plants of exotic lands, it appear for me that I go into in a dream."

Together with his exotic pictures there was a simultaneous output of minor topographical metaphors of the town and its fringes.

He states to include formulated new genus of portrait scenery, which he completed by to start a painting with a sight such as a desired part of the town, and then describing the individual in the forefront.
